Distinguished Research Award
Selection Process
Solicitation of Supporting Material
All nominees for the Distinguished Research Award will receive a letter of notification from the Office of Academic Affairs. They will be asked to submit the following documents in electronic form to academic@u.washington.edu:

An electronic copy of an updated curriculum vitae.

Electronic copies of supporting evidence: professional recognition, awards, etc.

Electronic copies of support letter(s) from external colleagues that attest to the significance of the scholarly work or creative activity.

Additional evidence, electronically submitted, that supports the impact on the discipline and contribution to the UWT campus community (pictures of artistic work, awards received, recognition letters, peer reviewed abstracts, peer reviewed publications).
Please Note: electronic copies can be created by scanning any of the documents listed above (or below). Our Mail/Copy Center provides this service at no charge. For more information, please contact Keith Ward or visit our campus Copy/Mail Center in MAT 053.

A detailed description of one’s scholarly activity, limited to five pages and electronically submitted, that should include:
1.) Criteria in your field for the development of new knowledge
2.) Why your scholarly or creative activity is noteworthy
3.) How this work has contributed to the intellectual development of the University of Washington Tacoma
4.) The connection between the research, scholarly or creative activity and the wider community
5.) How this scholarly or creative activity is linked back to teaching.
Expectations of the Distinguished Teaching Award Recipient

The awardee will attend and be recognized at the UW Tacoma
awards ceremony. (The recipient will receive a $3,000 honorarium.)
- The awardee will be expected to deliver a talk on her or his research or creative activity the following fall quarter. The talk will be open to the campus community and the public.

The awardee will serve on the Distinguished Research Award Committee
the year after receiving the award.
