Teaching in a Collaborative Classroom

Many UWT faculty members have found innovative ways to utilize the collaborative classroom in their teaching to enhance student learning and encourage group participation.

Teaching Tips: Suggestions and Ideas


  • "U"- shaped formation for seminar/discussion format

  • Fishbowl for small group discussions

  • Dividers used for small-group brainstorming


  • Group work of many sizes and shapes--pairs, in 3's in 4"s , sixes, or
    groups of 10. 


  • The wireless keyboard and mouse-- pass among the students so that more than one person can be writing/scribing for the group.

  • Modifying the room to match the mode of instruction, students are actively involved in learning.
