Blackboard 7.1 Upgrade
The Blackboard Online Course Management System has been upgraded to version 7.1., which includes a few changes to the system, and for now, a few newly discovered issues. This change went into effect after Friday, September 1, 2006.
NEW System Requirements for Blackboard 7
When taking a UWT Blackboard course , your computer should meet the following minimum specifications:
Browser and Operating System:
- PC's
users should
run Microsoft
Internet Explorer
6 " (IE
6). It works best
with Blackboard
on computers
running the
Microsoft Windows
operating system. (Internet
Explorer 6
should already
be on your
computer if you
are
using Windows. If
you don't
already have
IE
6,
you may download
Internet
Explorer
6 SP1 now .) However , in some
cases,
due to recent
changes
in IE and
Blackboard,
we have
discovered
that " Firefox " works
as well
or better
for some
functions. ( Download
Firefox
1.0.8.) Choose
the Blackboard
certified
browser
that works
best
for you. Depending
on your
platform,
certain
browsers
are certified,
while
others
are at
least
compatible. Go
to the BB71_Compatible_Browsers to
determine what
browsers are
certified
and/
or compatible
with Blackboard in
consideration
of
your
platform.
- MAC
users who
have
10.3, need to
download Firefox
1.0.x
version, which
is
certified by BB. ( Download Firefox 1.0.8.) - If
you have 10.4, you
can use Safari 2.0 or
you can still download
Firefox
1.0.x.
- Disable pop-up blocker software. (Firefox automatically blocks popups. You NEED to disable popups for BB site in order for virtual classroom to work.)
- Remove spyware.
- Check firewall settings (if applicable) to make sure settings aren't blocking Blackboard or UWT sites. Depending on your access location, this could be on your computer, on a network or through your ISP.
- Mail preferences in your chosen email program may need to be set to open "Mail To" commands for certain email links within Blackboard to function properly.
- Your browser may need to be set to check for newer versions of stored pages every visit. In Internet Explorer 6, go to the "Tools" menu and choose "Internet Options". Under "Temporary Internet Files", choose "Settings". Under "Check for newer versions of stored pages", check "Every visit to the page". Click "OK", the "OK" again
