B.A.B.A.: How to Apply

The UW Tacoma and Milgard School of Business have a two-step admission process involving several items depending on whether you are a current UW Tacoma student or transferring in from a community college or universtiy. Applicants should apply to UW Tacoma before applying to the Milgard School of Business.

Applicants should have completed a minimum of 4 business prerequisites and 60 credits prior to applying to the Milgard School of Business.

Please read the information below carefully to make sure that all required materials are submitted.

Step 1: Apply to UW Tacoma

Transfer Students

• Submit the Application for Transfer Admission to the University of Washington Tacoma:
  • Apply on-line through ApplyWeb
• Request an official transcript for all college-level coursework. High school transcripts are required only if foreign language requirements were completed in high school.
  The University of Washington Tacoma now requires, when possible, that official transcripts be sent electronically from any Washington State Community or Technical College. UW Tacoma's electronic transcript code is 412.

Running Start Students (who meet program admission requirements)

• Submit the Freshman Application to UW Tacoma:
  • Apply on-line through ApplyWeb
• Request an official transcript for all college-level coursework.
  The University of Washington Tacoma now requires, when possible, that official transcripts be sent electronically from any Washington State Community or Technical College. UW Tacoma's electronic transcript code is 412.

Current UW Tacoma Students

• Complete the Request to Declare/Change Major form and submit to your current program adviser.

Returning UW Tacoma Students

• If you were previously enrolled at UW Tacoma, submit a Returning Student Application in lieu of the Application for Transfer Admission:
  • Apply on-line through ApplyWeb

Step 2: Apply to the Milgard School of Business

STOP! Before you start this step, make sure you have FULLY completed STEP 1 above.

Submit the Business School Application

All Business School applicants are required to submit the Business School Application prior to the posted priority application date for the quarter to which they are applying. There is no application fee to apply to the Milgard School of Business.

Take the Writing Skills Assessment

All Business School applicants are required to take the Writing Skills Assessment prior to the posted priority application date for the quarter to which they are applying. Applicants may register on-line for the assessment test.

Note on Personal Statement

Transfer students may use the same personal statement they used on the Application for Transfer Admission listed in Step 1. Current UW Tacoma students should write a new personal statement based on the guidelines listed in the Business School Application.

Additional Information

The Business school admits the majority of new students in Autumn quarter. Admission for Winter and Spring is based on space availability.

Complete Business School applications received by the priority application date will be assured of a review; complete applications received after the priority application date will be reviewed on a space-available basis. Admissions will remain open until the program is full.

Your admission is contingent upon receipt of transcripts verifying successful completion of all prerequisites courses prior to the quarter you will begin classes at the University. Additional information about these requirements can be found on our Admission Requirements page.

International Applicants have additional requirements to gain admission to the Univeristy of Washington Tacoma. Review those requirements prior to submitting an application to the University of Washington Tacoma or the Milgard School of Business.
