B.A.B.A.: Informal Option in International Business
The International Business option provides a focused course of study from the perspective of the global environment. Courses in the option are designed to emphasize the economic reality of the global marketplace and effective performance in the dynamic international-business arena. The electives from Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences provide for further study in international culture, religion and economics. Students are required to develop a portfolio to demonstrate their integrative learning. The option is intended to prepare students for positions in international divisions of American companies; to work in the import-export business; to seek careers in national or international governmental agencies; to establish international businesses; and to enter careers in international commercial and investment banking.
International Business Prerequisites
UW Tacoma students must meet the following prerequisites to apply for admission:
- Have a minimum of 60 credits at time of application
- Have taken at least four (of the eight) business prerequisites
(All eight prerequisites must be complete prior to beginning the program.)- TACCT 210: Financial Accounting I
- TACCT 220: Financial Accounting II
- TACCT 230: Managerial Accounting
- TBGEN 200: Introduction to Statistics in Business or
TQS 110: Introductory Statistics with Applications - TBGEN 218: Business Law
- TBECON 220: Introduction to Microeconomics (Previously named TFIN 220)
- TBECON 221: Introduction to Macroeconomics (Previously named TFIN 221)
- TQS 211: Calculus
- Have a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA
- Have a minimum cumulative 2.75 business GPA
- Submit a Business School Application and personal statement
- Take the Writing Skills Assessment
Note: Applicants to the International Business Option must take 10 credits of foreign language or have had 2 years of foreign language in high school.

Once accepted into the Business School, international business students must complete the following courses for graduation.

- TMKTG 480 International Marketing
- 5 credits of recommended IAS/Urban Studies electives
- 10 credits of recommended business electives

- TBUS 400 (5 credits) Business Policy and Strategic Management
- Elective credits to bring total to 180
