The Milgard School of Business Master of Business Administration (MBA) is designed to serve the educational needs of South Puget Sound residents and is a part-time program. The UW Tacoma campus does not offer support services (such as housing, specialized academic assistance, and English as a Second Language courses) for non-residents. International applicants are encouraged to apply to the UW Seattle Foster School of Business.
The Milgard School of Business MBA Program admits students for Autumn Quarter only to accommodate the carefully designed MBA sequence of classes that begin in early September.
Applicants interested in pursing a MBA course of study must apply to the UW Graduate School and the Milgard School of Business MBA Program. With one online application and by selecting the UW Tacoma Milgard School of Business Part-time evening MBA Program, prospective MBA students can apply to both the Graduate School and the UW Tacoma MBA Program. Applicants are required to submit supplemental application materials online (see instructions below regarding transcripts) to the Milgard School of Business to complete an application. Applicants should submit supplemental materials online to meet the dates listed in the Important Dates table, as these will supersede graduate admissions deadlines.
Applicants must be accepted by the Graduate School and the Milgard School of Business in order to matriculate.
Complete applications received by the Priority Application Date of April 15 at the Milgard School of Business are assured of a review. However, the Milgard School of Business will accept complete applications until July 1, but late admission is based on space availability. Admission decision letters are mailed beginning in June.
The following are required for admission to the Milgard School of Business MBA Program and the University of Washington Graduate School:
- A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. or its equivalent from a foreign institution.
- An overall grade-point average of 3.0 calculated from the applicant's final 90 graded quarter credits or 60 graded semester credits.
- Competitive scores from the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).
- One set of official transcripts from each institution attended, including the University of Washington.
- One essay.
- A resume and a completed Management and Professional Work Experience Summary Form.
- A minimum of two years of managerial and professional work experience.
- Two professional recommendations.

- U.S. Permanent Residents
- U.S. permanent residents (Green card holders or immigrants) are NOT considered international applicants and must complete the domestic version of the UW Graduate School Application online, as well as meet the additional admission requirements listed below.
- English Language Proficiency
- TOEFL
- Permanent residents (Green card holders or immigrants) who do not hold a baccalaureate degree (or higher) from a U.S. or English-speaking institution in accepted countries (Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom) are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
- Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test scores must be sent by ETS(Educational Testing Service) directly to the University of Washington . TOEFL test scores are valid for two years and must be valid on the date the application is submitted.
- The TOEFL is currently offered in three formats: internet-based (TOEFLiBT), computerized test (TOEFLC), and written, paper-based test (TOEFL).
- Written paper-based, minimum score 580
- Computerized (TOEFLC), minimum score 237
- Internet-based (TOEFLiBT), minimum score 92
- The ETS (Educational Testing Service)

- International Baccalaureate Degree or Higher
- January 15 is the final date for applicants with international baccalaureate degrees or higher to complete the online UW Graduate School application and submit official transcripts with degree statements from all institutions attended, including certified translations in English, for fall admission consideration.
- After completing the UW Graduate School application, print a copy of the application and mail it, together with official transcripts, certified English translations and degree statement, to the following address:

The Office of Graduate Admissions assesses and evaluates international degrees based on the following:
- The characteristics of a national system of education in the home country
- The type of institution attended
- The field of study and level of studies completed
- Official accreditation/recognition status of school
Since there are no U.S. federal guidelines on admission, each institution determines its own policy on prior degrees. At the University of Washington, you must have at least a baccalaureate degree equivalent to a regionally accredited U.S. institution to apply for admission to the graduate school.
Before starting the online application process, have the following information available:
- GMAT scores or a scheduled test date. (UW Tacoma Part-time, Evening GMAT code is ZRZ-NM-95; ETS DI Code is 4749).
- Dates of all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended.
- Undergraduate and graduate cumulative grade point average.

For Milgard School of Businss Scholarship consideration, attach a personal essay titled "Milgard Scholarship Consideration for New MBAs". The essay is one-page, double-spaced, minimum font 11 and should include your full name. Describe your leadership activities and goals in your organization or community and explain how this MBA program will help you accomplish these activities and goals.
- GMAT Preparation
- The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
is a standardized assessment that helps business schools assess the qualifications of applicants for advanced study in business and management. The Milgard School of Business uses the test as one predictor of academic performance in the MBA Program. - The GMAT measures verbal, mathematical (algebra and geometry), and analytical writing skills that you have developed over time in your work and education. The GMAT consists of three main parts, the Analytical Writing Assessment, the Quantitative section, and the Verbal section.
- Applicants to the Milgard School of Business MBA Program must submit official results from the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) taken within the last five years. By selecting the UW Tacoma MBA, Part Time Program at the time of test taking, official scores will be sent directly to UW Tacoma. If submitting scores taken after testing and within the past five years, contact Pearson VUE through their website
to have official scores sent electronically to UW Tacoma. - The unofficial GMAT score, provided to you as soon as you complete the test, should be included on your application. Your application will not be considered complete until the official GMAT score is received at UW Tacoma. Plan accordingly so that you take the GMAT in plenty of time for the official score to be received by the April 15 Priority Date and to have time to retest if necessary.
- Applicants are advised to prepare for the GMAT by becoming familiar with the test format and content. Good preparation includes taking practice tests to increase speed and comfort levels with the test materials.
- GMAT preparation guides and software are available in many bookstores or purchased online. Test Preparation workshops are offered on the UW Tacoma campus through the Keybank Professional Development Center.
