About William W. Philip Hall
Thanks to a gift from philanthropist and businessman James A. Milgard, the building is named in honor of William W. Philip, who had a seminal role in establishing UW Tacoma.
William W. Philip, a 1945 graduate of Stadium High School, attended the UW and later became a highly successful bank chairman in Tacoma. He was determined to bring the excellence of a UW education to the men and women of the South Sound. Mr. Philip gave the first gift UW Tacoma ever received and helped to establish the earliest endowments in support of the campus. In the formative years of UW Tacoma, there was no significant initiative in which he did not play a role—usually a leading role.
William W. Philip Hall was designed by Thomas Hacker Architects.
