18th Annual Commencement Ceremony:
Disability Accommodations

To request disability accommodations for yourself or a guest, contact Disability Support Services at least 10 days prior to commencement.

Special seating areas have been set aside for guests in wheelchairs or who may have trouble climbing stairs or walking long distances.

Disability seating is provided in two areas:

  • On the arena floor below the bleachers, right behind where graduating students are seated. This option requires guests and their escorts to enter via the lower "A" doors (where students enter).
  • Half way up in the bleacher section. Guests sitting in this area will enter through the upper “C” doors (where other guests enter).

There is a considerable walk—at least 120 feet—from either door to the seating area. There are no steps along either of these routes. If walking this distance is too difficult, there will be wheelchairs available and ushers at each entrance to assist guests to their seats.

To ensure space for all disabled guests, no more than two able-bodied guests are allowed to accompany each disabled guest in the reserved sections. This can be disappointing to families who want to all sit together, but it is necessary to ensure disability seating is available for everyone who needs it. We encourage large families and groups who want to sit relatively close together to arrive early so the able-bodied guests can find seats as close as possible in nearby bleachers.

There are a number of disability parking spaces available (for the same $8 parking fee) right outside this entrance for vehicles with a disability permit or license plates.
