Computer Purchases for Offices/Classrooms

Computer Services must approve all computer hardware, computer software and computer peripheral purchases.

Request for all computer related hardware and software isses should be submitted to tachelp@u.washington.edu

Computer Services purchases computers from national manufactures under state contract. These computers have a high-end processor and memory sized well above the minimums required to process the standard sets of software. We standardize the equipment to facilitate deployment and repair.

Software is purchased under volume licensing agreements when available.

Peripherals are purchase from preferred equipment vendors. These vendors offer lower prices and excellent customer service.

The standard computer purchase for the desktop for the Academic Year (2006-2007) is:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (2.13GHz)
  • 1066mhz front side bus
  • 2Gb memory
  • 17" flat panel monitor
  • 80gb hard drive
  • NO Floppy drive
  • 24X slimline cdrw/dvd combo, data only

The above changes during the manufacturing cycle of the equipment, prices usually drop performance usually increases. Each request should indicate special requirements and/or configuration changes; such as, type of display (size, crt or lcd) type of optical drive (cdrom,cd/rw,dvd,etc).
