Data Storage for Students (H: and S: Drives)Computer Services of UWT has set up personal network drives, namely the 'H' drive, (your secure personal space) and the 'S' drive (open access collaboration space) for your data storage. You are ultimately responsible for making copies of (backing up) any files you create before your account is disabled or deleted. All files and folders you create should be put on your personal network drive -- the 'H' drive or the 'S' drive. Files and folders placed on the 'H:' drive will be backed up by Computer Services. Such backups do not last forever -- the availability of files for restoration is subject to time and backup media space. The sooner you notice lost or deleted files or folders, the better the chances are we will be able to restore the files or folders for you. The 'H:' drive - your personal, secure, storage space on the UWT servers. This space is restricted to 1GB. If your storage exceeds this limit your account will be disabled, and you will be required to go to the computer lab to re-enable your account and reduce the amount of space used on the UWT servers. The 'S:' drive - an open access location used to temporarily storing files can be accessed by many users. This location is not secure, and all files in this location are deleted 5 days after the end of every quarter. No recovery options are supported for files left on the 'S:' drive longer than 5 days after the end of the quarter. NOTE: No files should be placed on the local disk drive (the 'C:' drive). Files placed on the local hard disk will be deleted, and are unrecoverable. For more information, please refer to the Student Computer Access Roadmap, whichs include the Account Duration Policy, Deleted Accounts Policy, Usage Policy and File Storage Policy. |
