Opportunity Grants

The Opportunity Grant program helps low-income students complete up to one year of college and a certificate in a high-wage, high demand career.

TEACH Grant Program

The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides federal grants of up to $4000 per year, for a maximum of $8,000. In exchange for receiving a TEACH Grant, you must agree to serve as a full-time teacher in a high-need field in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves low-income students. As a recipient of a TEACH Grant, you must teach for at least four academic years within eight calendar years of completing the program of study for which you received a TEACH Grant.

Troops to Teachers

Troops to Teachers is a U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Defense military benefits program that helps transitioning and retiring military personnel begin rewarding and productive new careers as K-12 teachers in public, private, and charter schools.

Troops to Teachers provides counseling, job placement assistance, and generous financial incentives for eligible military veterans. Troops to Teachers is not a teacher credentialing or licensure program, but does offer initial advising to veterans seeking to complete such programs in order to earn a Washington teaching certificate.

Fellowship Opportunities

The Office of Student Fellowships & Awards supports UW Tacoma students in their applications for competitive institutional, national, and international fellowships. In collaboration with campus partners, the Office raises awareness of fellowship opportunities, helps students develop the skills and personal insights necessary to pursue scholarships, and provides assistance throughout the application process.
