Comprehensive Examination
The comprehensive exam is no longer required for the completion of the Masters in Education degree. Completion of the two-quarter sequence of TEDUC 593/594 practicum or TEDUC 599 project will serve as the final exam. However, students who have taken the comprehensive exam prior to June 15, 2009 and failed a portion or failed to complete the exam, are still required to pass the failed or incomplete portion(s) to complete the degree requirements.
Professional Certification
Students who have earned a Residency Teacher Certificate at UW Tacoma and wish to complete Professional Certification must follow the procedures listed below:
Students who wish to combine Professional Certification with the completion of their Master of Education (M.Ed.), must meet with an adviser and complete a program plan before proceeding with M.Ed. course requirements and Professional Certificate. Failure to do so may prevent their ability to incorporate Professional Certification with the M.Ed.
In order to pursue the Professional Certificate program at UWT, individuals must complete one academic year as a fully-contracted teacher. Form SPI4421 must be submitted to the Education Program before students can enroll in the Professional Certificate program.
To help students understand the course sequencing, the plan below shows a typical progression of coursework:
- T EDUC 550 (3) Preassessment Seminar (must take first)
- T EDUC 502 (3 credits) Learning about Learning
- T EDUC 503 (3 credits) Educational Measurement
- T EDUC 504 (3 credits) Undestanding Educational Research (prerequisite: T EDUC 503)
- Practicum/Project (T EDUC 593/594, or T EDUC 599) (6 credits)
- T EDUC 552 (2) Professional Certificate Culminating Seminar
