M.Ed. Admission & Application

Please note: all enrolled students are required to provide proof of measles (rubeola) immunity. Students will not be allowed to register for any classes until the UW Tacoma Registrar's Office confirms that they have satisfied this requirement. Students born before 01/01/57 are considered to be immune to measles and therefore do NOT need to submit proof of immunity.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Master of Education program requires that applicants be simultaneously admitted to the UW Tacoma Education program and the UW Graduate Admissions.

Complete applications received by the priority application dates posted at right will be assured of a review; complete applications received after the priority application date will be reviewed on a space-available basis. Remember, several items are required to complete your application. Transcripts often take several weeks to arrive. Your application will not be reviewed for admission until all materials have been received.

In addition to the completed application form, the following are required:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • 3.0 grade point average calculated from the applicant's final 90 graded quarter credits or 60 graded semester credits
  • One official transcript from each institution attended. Should you be admitted and choose to enroll in our program, you must send a second transcript showing the conferral of your bachelor's degree to the Graduate Admission Office (upon their request). Graduates of the University of Washington are exempt from the second transcript requirement.
  • Written personal goal statement of one or two pages describing how graduate study will enhance your professional growth. The goal statement is an important part of the application because it allows you to share a part of yourself that we typically would not see in your GPA. Be sure to include your name, address, and phone number on each sheet
  • Personal Data form
  • Two confidential sealed letters of recommendation
  • Copy of valid teaching certificate (or teaching experience)
  • Form SPI4421 (complete this form only if pursuing the professional certificate)

Application Procedures

Applicants must apply online to the UW Graduate Admissions and also submit required documents to the UWT Education Program. The application checklist is a helpful document to ensure that all items are complete. No action can be taken until all materials are received.
