Professional Certificate Admission & Application

Please note: all enrolled students are required to provide proof of measles (rubeola) immunity. Students will not be allowed to register for any classes until the UW Tacoma Registrar's Office confirms that they have satisfied this requirement. Students born before 01/01/57 are considered to be immune to measles and therefore do NOT need to submit proof of immunity.

Admission Requirements

Complete applications received by the priority application dates posted at right will be assured of a review; complete applications received after the priority application date will be reviewed on a space-available basis. Remember, several items are required to complete your application. Transcripts often take several weeks to arrive. Your application will not be reviewed for admission until all materials have been received.

To be admitted to the Professional Certificate Program (PCP) at the University of Washington, Tacoma, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • 3.0 grade point average calculated from the applicant's final 90 graded quarter credits or 60 semester credits
  • One official transcript from each institution attended. Should you be admitted and choose to enroll in our program, you must send a second transcript showing the conferral of your bachelor's degree to the Graduate Admission Office (upon their request). Graduates of the University of Washington are exempt from the second transcript requirement.
  • Written personal goal statement of two to three pages describing how graduate study will enhance your professional growth. The goal statement is an important part of the application because it allows the candidate to share issues which may not be visible through the GPA alone.
  • Personal Data form
  • Two confidential sealed letters of recommendation (one of which must come from the sponsoring principal/administrator).
  • Copy of valid teaching certificate
  • Form SPI4421 (Provisional Status/Employer Support Verification)
