Assessment Testing Overview

Spanish and Math courses at UWT are opportunities for people who want to major or minor in related fields, such as International Business or Hispanic Studies for Spanish and Environmental Studies or Computer Engineering for Math.

But there are plenty of other great reasons to take Spanish and Math as electives. Spanish helps students become more culturally literate in whatever field of interest they pursue. Similarly, Math helps students become more knowledgeable and independent thinkers.

To study Math or Spanish at UWT, students must take a placement test first. (Those who have never taken any Spanish course need not take a placement test: they can proceed directly into Spanish 101.). Neither test is "pass/fail." Both tests assess the level each student is at so that he or she can be guided towards the right course.

Test anxiety? No worries. Past UWT students have found the Spanish placement test fun. And there are two levels of Math Placement test, so that you start at the right place. The Teaching and Learning Center consultants can help you review for the test, if you like.
