Dr. Divya C. McMillin, Director
Divya C. McMillin teaches international communication and cultural studies. Classes focus on media globalization, children and television, gender, ethnicity, class and the media; and media ethics.
Her first book, International Media Studies (2007, Blackwell Publishing) argues for a postcolonial turn in the study of the political economy and reception of global and local media. Her second book, Media Globalization and Youth Identity (forthcoming, Peter Lang Publishing), interrogates the material conditions that produce youth workers and consumers.
McMillin has published articles in the Journal of Communication, International Journal of Cultural Studies, Continuum: Journal of Media and Cultural Studies, Indian Journal of Gender Studies, and the International Communication Bulletin, to name a few. She has contributed book chapters to such anthologies as Planet TV (2003, New York University Press), Girl Wide Web (2006, Peter Lang), South Asian Technoscapes (2008, Peter Lang) and Re-Orienting Global Communication (forthcoming, University of Illinois Press). Her conference presentations have won top paper awards.
McMillin also works collaboratively with the Internationales Zentralinstitut fur das Jugend-und Bildungsfernsehen (Germany) to develop high quality programming for children's television worldwide.
