Meet Akiko Yoshinaga

Akiko Yoshinaga

"Hi! I am Akiko. I am from Fukuoka, Japan and came to America in the Spring of 2006. I had been wishing to study abroad in America since I was 14. I am so happy that my dream (to study in the US) came true! The reason why I wanted to come here was just because I loved American movies and actresses so much. That reason might sound a little bit stupid, to choose something that greatly affect one's life, but I realized that I am totally happy with my decision to come here to study because I have met great friends, teachers and host families in America!

"I graduated from Green River Community College and transferred to UW Tacoma in fall of 2008. Now that I am in Global Honors, I have found that it is a really fascinating program that gives us good information about study abroad and globalization. Also, I love Global Honors classes because the program offers small classes and has really nice people!

"I am majoring in psychology. I hope to work as a school psychologist in the future. I haven't decided whether to work either in America or in Japan, but in either case, the things that I learn from my experience of studying abroad will help me to have many different perspectives about everything in my life."
