Meet Maren Alaine

When I was little, my pretend-friend and I would travel to all kinds of exotic worlds, twirl on clouds, and walk on ceilings. Although her travels have taken her out of my life, my passions for travel and imagination have remained strong. And my travels have already taken me further than I ever could have imagined!
I worked for an airline for about three years, which allowed me the opportunity to visit Japan, Canada, Mexico, and parts of the United States. In Spring of 2008, I studied in Florence, Italy for three months. When I transferred to UW Tacoma that fall, the Global Honors Program was a natural choice. It provides an academic challenge, participatory classes, and amazing student community and friends. The others in the group are smart, opinionated, and hard-working; it is a privilege to be counted among them.
I am currently working on an undergraduate degree in Self and Society. I like to consider myself an artist and a poet, although both skills are a work in progress. I am a strange combination of hobbies and interests: everything from ballroom dance, to woodworking, to aerobics, to racing my car! I love everything the world has to experience, and I seek after every opportunity to do it all.
