Good Internal Practices and Fraud Prevention Tips November 17 9 am - 3 pm DOU 270 (am); BHS 107 (pm)
Description

The repercussions of employee embezzlement or a similar scandal that could result from the lack of internal controls would be nightmarish for any college or university. The impact of such loss is wide-ranging, from disruption of research and educational activities to the incurring of legal and personnel action costs, increased regulation, and adverse publicity. To prevent this, faculty, administrators, and staff must understand internal controls. This course describes internal controls: what they are, what they do, and why they are necessary. Course participants learn how to recognize early warning signs of fraud and gain knowledge of simple procedures to implement immediately and reduce risks. Content includes review of case studies of recent frauds that have taken place at the UW.

This important training is being offered at UW Tacoma, sponsored by the Finance Department and Human Resources. We as a campus are now on a regular review schedule with the auditors and they look very closely at internal controls. As such this is an issue we want to get out in front of to insure our compliance. Some staff members have been identified and requested to attend based on the nature of their job.

If you believe this training would be appropriate for you, please check with your supervisor and register at the link below. If you have a staff member who should attend please encourage their registration.
