I received my B.A. in History from the University of Louisville, 1994, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in History, 2002. My research and teaching interests focus on U.S. history emphasizing the place of race, gender, class and religion at the center of our understanding of the social, political and cultural movements of the twentieth century. Within the field of U.S. history I am particularly interested in the history and construction of racial and ethnic identities. I am currently working on a book on African-American migration in Louisville, Kentucky during the era of the Second Great Migration.
