Talk the Walk

(message from Jennifer Burley, Transportation Coordinator)

Greetings Campus!

Join us for an evening with Dan Burden, a nationally recognized pedestrian advocate for a walkability lecture and discussion brought to you by UWT and the City of Tacoma:

Monday, May 12th
7:00 pm, Carwein Auditorium

Dan has spent over 25 years developing best practices for the creation of walkable and bikeable communities centered around the needs of people, not just cars. He served for 16 years as Florida DOT's State Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator, and he presently works as a Senior Urban Designer for Glatting Jackson, an Orlando-based firm partnered with Walkable Communities. He has photographed and studied walking & bicycling conditions in over 200 cities worldwide and has helped develop popular curriculum used to teach engineers, planners, and developers about creating walkable and bikeable communities. Join Dan as he shares his ideas for making Tacoma more liveable!

All are welcome to attend this free event!

See you there!

UWaTERS Scheduled

The 2008 UWaTERS (UW Tacoma Environmental Research Symposium) is now scheduled for 1:00-4:30pm on Tuesday, June 10, in the
Carwein Auditorium.

This symposium showcases the capstone research projects carried out by UWT's environmental science seniors. The projects presented this year include a wide range of topics from understanding shellfish lifecycles, to research on metal pollution in Washington lakes, to a video documentary of Puyallup River water management, to an investigation of pathogen persistance in local forests treated with sewage.

Please come show your support and see what exciting things undergraduate research has accomplished at UWT this year! Student presentations will be followed by a reception and all are welcome to attend.
