Admissions: B.S. in Environmental Science
Admission to the Environmental Science Program follows the same minimum requirements as an IAS degree:
- 40 college credits
- 2.0 GPA
- Intermediate algebra –either Math 98/99 at the community college or in high school
- 5 credits of English composition
However, students should be aware that there are several required lower division courses (100-200 level) that could be taken before admission to UWT in the first or second year of college that will allow a student complete the BS degree at UWT in a timely manner.
Preparing for Transfer
These preparatory courses should be taken before the upper division science core courses:
- 15 credits college biology (majors sequence with lab)
- At UWT --TESC 120, 130, 140
- 15 credits general chemistry (majors sequence with lab)
- At UWT -- TESC 141, 151, 161
- 5 credits physical geology (with lab)
- At UWT -- TESC 117
- 5 credits college physics (mechanics, with lab)
- At UWT -- TESC 121
- 5 credits college calculus overview course
- At UWT -- TQS 124 or 211
- 5 credits statistics
- At UWT – TQS 110
- At UWT – TQS 110
A minimum grade of 2.0 is required for each preparatory course and they must have been completed within the last 5 years. If they were completed before that time frame, please consult an IAS Adviser. See faculty or adviser or this table of local community college equivalents for specific transfer courses that are acceptable.
If a student does not have all or any of these courses completed before admission to UWT, admission will still be possible, however, he or she should work with an adviser, prior to registering, to plan out a schedule to include both the preparatory courses and the core courses in the proper sequence.
In addition to the science/math preparatory courses and the Environmental Science core courses, all BS students must complete the following requirements prior to graduation from UWT:
- 10 credits of foreign language- two quarters in college or two years in high school of a single language
- 15 credits of VLPA-- Visual, Literary and Performing Arts — (humanities)
- 15 credits of I and S — Individual and Societies -- (social science courses)
It is common for transfer students to have already met all or some of these requirements. Whatever a student is missing will become part of his or her study plan while at UWT.
