Graduation Requirements

You can apply for graduation as soon as you have 135 credits and are within one year of graduating. You must apply for graduation no later than the first two weeks of your final quarter. Most students apply earlier than their last quarter for two reasons:

  • To take advantage of the two quarter “graduating senior priority” (GSP) during registration
  • They leave the advising office knowing exactly what they need to take in the following quarters

The following requirements apply to all IAS students seeking a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree:

Meet with a program adviser to complete a graduation application - make an appointment by calling 253-692-4450.
All admission deficiencies must be satisfied at the time of the application including General University Requirements (GURs) or prerequisites for the Environmental Science or Studies degrees.
Turn in a completed portfolio by the second week of your final quarter.
You are expected to develop and demonstrate your abilities in writing, critical thinking, oral communication, and collaborative learning through the campus' emphases on reading and writing across the curriculum. In order to help you accomplish these goals, you will be required to compile a confidential portfolio of your work completed during the course of study at UWT. Check out the website below for the Portfolio and make sure you are using the right checklist. One checklist is for students who started at UWT before January 2006 and the other is for students who started here January 2006 or later.
Meet the minimum requirements for graduation
Complete a minimum of 180 quarter credits
These credits to include a minimum of 45 credits of upper division IAS courses. This number will include transfer credits as well as UWT credits, General Education Requirements, your own concentration and minor requirements, and any electives needed to bring the credit total to 180. Some students will need more than 180 credits to complete all the requirements depending on their particular circumstances.
Residency Requirement
A student must complete 45 of his or her last 60 credits as a matriculated student in residence at UWT. To seek an exception to this requirement, students should contact their program adviser. If an exception is granted, a student still must complete a minimum of 45 credits in residence at UWT to earn a degree.
Minimum 2.0 GPA
Students must have a cumulative UW GPA of 2.0 in order to graduate. This includes credits from any other UW campus, but does not include other colleges or universities.

Students who delay finishing GUR deficiencies or prerequisites will not be allowed to apply for graduation and may find their registration is on hold. You must work with advisers to make sure you complete these requirements in a timely manner.
