The Bologna Process for U.S. Eyes:Re-learning Higher Education in the Age of Convergence:
Institute for Higher Education Policy

What does an associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral degree mean? What does it represent in terms of student learning? What does a degree in a particular field at each of those levels mean? This 258 page document discusses the implecations of these and other questions for American higher education in context to the lessons learned from the European "Bologna Process." Beginning in 1996, 46 European countries have been engaged in reconstructing their higher education systems to "move toward common reference points and operating procedures to create a European Higher Education Area." This report sees the core features of the Bologna Process having the potential "to become the dominant global higher education model."

National

A Stronger Nation Through Higher Education:
The Lumina Foundation for Education

The Lumina Foundation for Education believes that the American economy and society will be best served by a college-educated citizenry. Their stated "big goal" is "to increase the percentage of Americans with high-quality degrees and credentials from 39 percent to 60 percent by the year 2025" through "a more efficient and effective system of higher education. . ." This report contains state-by-state data on higher education attainment.

Digest of Education Statistics 2008:
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)

The Digest includes nationwide data from government and private sources and draws on the results of surveys and activities carried out by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) to provide statistical information about American education from prekindergarten through graduate school.

The Condition of Education:
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)

This report presents indicators of important developments and trends in U.S. education. These indicators focus on participation and persistence in education, student performance and other measures of achievement, the environment for learning, and resources for education. In addition, this year’s volume contains a special analysis that examines changes in student course taking in high school using national transcript data from 1982 to 2005.

Projections of Education Statistics to 2015:
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)

This report provides statistics on elementary and secondary schools and degree-granting institutions and includes projections of enrollment, graduates, teachers, and expenditures to the year 2015. The projections in this report were produced by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) to provide researchers, policy analysts, and others with state-level projections developed using a consistent methodology. They are not intended to supplant detailed projections prepared in individual states.

Act On Fact - Using Data To Improve Student Success:
Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE)

This 2006 CCSSE report asks and attempts to answer questions about how community colleges can develop assessment criteria that leads to shared strategies for using data to affect fundamental and positive changes in student outcomes.

Dropout Rates in the United States:2005:
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)

This report continues the reporting of statistics first made available with 1988's Dropout Rates in the United States. Extensive data tables provide information about the rate at which U.S. high school students are leaving school without a successful outcome.

Measuring Up 2008

In 2000, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Lumina Foundation for Education provided support to create Measuring Up "to assist the nation and the states in improving higher education opportunity and effectiveness." This link to the 2008 report's Website offers recent findings in its efforts to provide "national and state-by-state report cards for higher education."

Washington State

Drivers for a Successful Technology-Based Economy: Benchmarking Washington’s Performance:
Technology Alliance Report

Released in 2006, the report's authors used three "Key Drivers" (Education, Research Capacity, and Entrepreneurial Climate) to compare Washington’s performance as a technology-based economy. This report provides benchmarks relative to peer states on more than 40 indicators. Ample data is illustrated to support their findings.

Educator Supply and Demand in Washington State:
Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction

This 2004 report is the third Educator Supply and Demand research study performed in the State of Washington. The intent of this study was to provide data to "inform and shape decisions and activities" related to educator employment from elementary to higher education. The report was prepared by OSPI’s Professional Education and Certification Office in collaboration with the Washington School Personnel Association and American Association for Employment in Education.

Readiness

This 22 page report provides data that surveys the "readiness" of Washington students for higher education. Charts and graphs illustrate data that address several crucial questions such as "How well prepared for higher education are Washington students?", "How do Washington students’ test scores compare by gender?", "What are the trends of college-going rates for racial and ethnic minority students?" among others.

UW Tacoma IRP 47th Annual AIR Forum Paper:

UW Tacoma IRP participated in the 2009 47th annual AIR Forum held in Atlanta and presented the award winning PNAIRP Best Paper "Strategically Creating a Technology-Based Institutional Research Office Using the Data Diamond Model."

UW Tacoma 2008 Autumn Report:

This report offers a look at various data about UW Tacoma's autumn 2008 student population including applications, student demographics, academics and retention. Analysis cover academic five year trend data where appropriate.

2008 Autumn Census Day Freshman Report:

This IRP report is a synopsis of the Fall 2008 first-year cohort, which is now the third freshman cohort to enroll at UW Tacoma. The report reveals a record number of freshman applications for this class, 190 of whom are now enrolled as UW Tacoma freshman.
