Visualizing UW Tacoma Data
with GIS Maps

UW Tacoma's Urban Studies department has developed several Geographic Information System (GIS) generated maps based on 2006 data. These maps offer a graphic view of where students live in relationship to the UW Tacoma campus.

What is GIS?

GIS is a database system and software that can analyze and display data as digitized maps. With a GIS, information can be linked to location data, such as people to addresses or streets within a network. That information can then be layered to provide a better understanding of how the data relates. Layers can be chosen and then combined based on questions of interest.
