The University of Washington is part of the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program administered by the U.S. Department of State. The program aims to:
“increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by means of mutual educational and cultural exchange experiences”.
International Scholars Operations (ISO) at UW Seattle campus leads the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program efforts. UW Tacoma's Office of Global Affairs (OGA)/International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) works as a liaison between ISO, academic units, and other relevant parties to provide central support for UW Tacoma’s visiting scholars and their dependents.
Whether you are interested in hosting a J-1 scholar or becoming a J-1 scholar at UW Tacoma, please begin by contacting OGA/ISSS!
UW can sponsor J-1 Exchange Visitors who are offered UW academic appointment titles listed here. Students pursuing degrees at foreign universities are ineligible for academic appointment.
ISO issues Form DS-2019: Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor Status, which is necessary to apply for J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa.
