What's New

New UWT Help Desk

If you need any assistance in using technology, you can visit the new IT helpdesk located in WG-108. In addition to walk-in service, we provide immediate assistance to the UWT community via phone call, instant message, email and the campus web based helpdesk system. Through the web help desk environment, you will be able to search knowledge bases and submit requests online or via email. You will receive a confirmation email indicating that your request is being processed through the system.

New Wireless Networks

Wireless network access is available in each and every campus building. WLAN connectivity in campus buildings is funded by Student Technology Fees (with the exception of the Pinkerton building). We have started the installation of an outdoor wireless network in selected areas. It covers the Gillenwater Plaza, flag pole area and the grand staircase of the campus. UWT students can check out wireless laptop computers from the Library front desk to use anywhere in the Library; as well as from the Open Labs in WG-108 and CP-005 Front desks to use anywhere on campus.  Our goal is to provide a ubiquitous wireless network for the entire campus.

New Technology Facilities

  • The CP-005 Open Lab contains several small group collaborative learning spaces furnished with couches and big screen computer workstations. Food is permitted in this Open Lab.
  • Equipped with nine group computers for up to nine teams of students to collaborate and learn together, we have designed CP-105 as a Collaborative Learning classroom. Instructors have full control of the student group PC and can present two separate displays onto two projection screens.
  • The newly constructed William Philips Assembly Hall will be a 500-seat lecture hall.  The main hall can be divided into two rooms for two separate groups meeting simultaneously, using SMART classroom technologies in each of these rooms.
  • The Clickers: We have installed the Turning Point (i.e. Clickers) software in most of our instructor computers in all the SMART classrooms.
  • Instructors interested in audio podcasting their lectures can scheduled their classes in ten different classrooms. We can also package the lectures with PowerPoint slides or video-cast in seven of these classrooms.
  • We are now subscribing to Adobe Professional Connect Collaboration server to enable students to form online small group discussion synchronously and asynchronously.
