Borrowing videos from the Media Collection
If you are on the UW Tacoma campus and would like to use a video from the Media Collection, please bring the title and call number of the video to the Circulation Desk. Our staff will retrieve the video and check it out to you. You can borrow the video for 3 days, with 3 renewals. When finished with the video, return it to the Circulation Desk. Videos in the Teaching Collection, a smaller subset of videos designated for classroom use, are checked out for library use only. 4 DVD/VHS/TV Combo Units are located on the south side of the second floor of the library near the group study rooms.
You can borrow headphones for these stations at the Circulation Desk by leaving your ID as collateral, or you may use your own headphones. A media unit equipped with DVD, VHS and Videodisc players is available for groups in the Group Study Room on the first floor. Please schedule the room in advance to ensure availability. When you are finished with the video, please return it to the Circulation Desk.
Requesting videos from other campuses
If you would like to view a video from the UW Seattle Media Center, you can page it through the UW Library Catalog using the "Request/Place Hold" function, fill out our scheduling form, or send an email to taclibav. Videos from the Bothell Media Center may only be requested through the scheduling form or email.
If you wish to use a video in a class presentation, we recommend booking it in advance; all videos from the Teaching Collection must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. To book videos from any UW Library, use our online scheduling form or send an email to taclibav. If you send an email, include your name, the video's title and call number, the class, and the date and time you need the video. Requests for UWT Library Media Collection videos take at least 24 hours to process; videos from other campuses require at least a week. You will be notified via email when your video(s) are available for pick-up at the Circulation Desk.
Getting a video from course reserve
If you wish to view a video that your professor has reserved for your class, give the title to the Circulation Staff and indicate that it is on reserve. Most reserve materials may only be viewed in the library.
If your student group would like to show movies to the general public, please see the Media Collection's guide to showing movies on campus, which explains the copyright issues and how to get permission.
Students from other UW campuses
Students on another UW campus who would like to borrow videos from the Media Collection should contact their local media center, whose staff will coordinate the inter-library exchange of items. The Media Center handles circulation and is the primary collection of media on the UW Seattle campus, while the Campus Media Center serves the UW Bothell/Cascadia Campuses.
