Finding videos

To find videos in the Media Collection, use our media search page or browse through lists of videos in the Media Collection.

You can also search for videos in the UW Library Catalog. To find only videos in the Media Collection limit the location to "Tacoma Campus Library." If searching for a specific video, use the Title Search option in the Catalog. When searching for videos on a topic, the best approach is to do an Advanced Keyword Search and limit the Publication Type to "Video, Slides, Media."

Checking out videos

Once you find a video, bring the call number and title to the Circulation Desk. Write down the entire call number, including the word that describes the format, so our staff can find easily it. Some example call numbers are listed below.

Getting videos from other campuses

To borrow videos from the UW Seattle Media Center, you can request them through UW Libraries Catalog by clicking on the button labeled "Request/Place Hold." If you would like to use the video on a specific date, please use our scheduling form or email taclibav. It takes about a three days for the video to be delivered. You will receive an email when it is available to pick-up at the Circulation Desk.

If you would like to watch a video from the UW Bothell Media Center, either use our online scheduling form or send an email to taclibav to request it. Bothell's videos cannot be requested through the UW Libraries Catalog.

UW Faculty, Students and Staff from other UW campuses who would like to borrow UW Tacoma Library videos can request them through the UW Libraries Catalog using the "Request/Place Hold" button.

Faculty

All videos (VHS, VideoDiscs and DVDs) are loaned to faculty for 3 days, with the possibility of 3 renewals. Please return the video to the Circulation Desk rather than the book drop. If you wish to schedule a video for a classroom viewing, please use our scheduling form or send an email to taclibav. For more information, please see the faculty page.

Students

Most videos (VHS, VideoDiscs and DVDs) can be checked out to students for 3 days, with the possibility of 3 renewals. Videos on Course Reserve or that are part of the Teaching Collection are checked out for library-use only. 4 DVD/VHS/TV Combo units are located on the south side of the second floor of the library near the group study rooms. For group use, a unit equipped with VHS, VideoDisc and DVD players is available in the Group Study Room on the first floor. To ensure availability, please reserve the Group Study Room in advance. Headphones can be checked out at the Circulation Desk. Please return the video to the Circulation Desk when you are finished. For more information, please see the students page.

Visitors

Only visitors who are currently affiliated with an academic institution may watch videos and use the video equipment without permission. In order to borrow a video and a set of headphones, visitors must leave a valid student, staff, or faculty identification card as collateral at the Circulation Desk. Any visitors who wish to use the Media Collection and are not affiliated with an academic institution may contact Justin Wadland, Head, Media and Visual Resources. All visitors must follow the Video Equipment Policy.
