Introductions

With approximately 15 people in attendance, everyone introduced themselves. Several people were attending the DG for the first time, after finding the listing in the Midwinter Program.

Old completed business

Pending business

  • Tina, John, Linda and Darby are still working on the directory of regional campus libraries in the U.S.
  • Difficulty in building the directory because definition of regional campus libraries is somewhat unclear.
  • We are currently using the IPEDS definition to define these campuses but there is some question where large community college systems and state systems might fit.
  • We have also decided it might be better for the institutions themselves to tell us whether they do or do not consider themselves “regional”.
  • Increase awareness of regional campus libraries projects
  • ACRL National poster session proposal was rejected
  • National Assoc. of Branch Campus Administrators (NABCA) panel session was submitted
  • Possible paper proposal for ALA Annual (deadline is January 31) or the Off-Campus Conference (proposals due March 22)

Discussion: Member profiles and summary

  • The profile as it stands is a good starting point to begin discussing variant administrative structures. Other things we want to know:
  • What types of e-resources are being offered?
  • What is the size of the print collection?
  • How many regional campus librarians are solo or online?
  • Since many solo librarians belong to SLA , we may want to send information to SLA about the regional campus libraries discussion group
  • How do regional campus librarians get funding for conferences and professional development?
  • What are some of the library vision or mission statements?
  • Darby will ask on the listserv for people to submit

Discussion: Toolkit Idea

  • Possible topics that draw on the variety and diversity in this DG:
  • How to contact adjuncts
  • Examples of collection development plans
  • Examples of vision statements
  • Submit materials to Darby
  • Darby will send a short list to the listserv and website so people can start adding
  • The toolkit can be seen as a repository

Discussion: Where do we go from here?

  • Darby passed out PSQ advertisement and encouraged everyone to consider submitting articles
  • Other publications we may want to consider:
  • Academic Exchange Quarterly
  • Publications specific to Regional Campus Administrators/Deans
  • Other conferences
  • Wisconsin August conference (WILSC?)
  • WECT (?) conference
  • Learning resource centers may have a conference or group that would be interested in regional campus libraries
  • When people join the listserv, get the link to the profile and send it out to other regional groups
  • Meeting in ALA Annual
  • Sunday afternoon from 1-3pm seems to be a good time for everyone.
