UW Tacoma's MBA program updated

Designed with the unique needs of the working professional in mind, the newly revised MBA program at University of Washington Tacoma's Milgard School of Business can be completed in two years while holding a full-time job.

MBA Program Director Eugene Sivadas, associate professor of marketing, said, "We redesigned our program to meet the needs of busy professionals who aspire to become tomorrow's business leaders. The program's goal is to develop visionary leaders who have the skills and managerial capabilities to promote organizational success and sustainability in ways that emphasize accountability to their stakeholders and society."

The program trains students in the various functional areas of business and emphasizes both "hard skills," such as financial and quantitative analysis, and "soft skills," such as oral and written communication and negotiations — all necessary for success in the business world. Students learn critical business skills, such as team-building, corporate strategy, managing change, budgeting and financial decision-making, corporate social responsibility, marketing and project management.

Electives for the program can be completed from a menu of offerings available at all three University of Washington campuses (Tacoma, Seattle and Bothell) and can be used to tailor the program to individual student needs.

Established in 1994 as the Business Administration program at UW Tacoma, the Milgard School of Business was named in 2003 in recognition of a generous endowment of $15 million from Gary E. Milgard, the Gary E. Milgard Family Foundation and James A. Milgard. Accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Milgard School of Business offers programs leading to a bachelor of arts in business administration (B.A.B.A) and a master of business administration (MBA).
