Washington State Nursing Centennial

Marjorie L. DesRosier, Ph.D., RN, a historical consultant, will speak on "Perspectives on the History of Nursing in Washington State." The talk is one of several events planned to commemorate the centennial of nursing in the state. The lecture is funded by Psi Chapter-at-Large, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the UW Tacoma Nursing Founders Endowment Fund. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Following DesRosier's lecture, participants will cross the street to the Washington State History Museum for the grand opening of "Nurses at Your Service: A Century of Caring." The museum exhibit opens April 11 and continues through July 5. The cost to attend the grand opening is $25. Children's Learning Day at the Giving Garden

Meet in front of the Science Building at 19th and Jefferson
The Giving Garden at UW Tacoma is reaching out to local families by providing children with an opportunity to learn at our garden with hands-on demonstrations of native plants that attract pollinators, composting, fruit tree maintenance and the construction of four additional raised beds with planting of vegetables already started in our greenhouse. Fire Retardant Dilemma

Arlene Blum, director of the Green Science Policy Institute, addresses "The Fire Retardant Dilemma: Balancing Fire Safety, Human Health and Environmental Protection." Blum is a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley's Department of Chemistry and a biophysical chemist. She has taught at Stanford University, Wellesley College and U.C. Berkeley, where her research was instrumental in banning the pesticide DBCP. Additionally, she has played a groundbreaking role in women's mountaineering. Paulsen Lecture Series: James Carville

James Carville, a leading political consultant and author who helped guide Bill Clinton to presidential victory in 1992, will speak about American politics. Carville is the first speaker to visit UW Tacoma as the Arthur R. and Anna Mae Paulsen Lecturer. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited, so tickets are required.
