UW Tacoma teams up with Tacoma Rainiers

Paint the Park Purple on June 20

UW Tacoma and the Tacoma Rainiers baseball team are teaming up for one special night to cover Cheney Stadium in purple and gold. June 20 is Paint the Park Purple night, an opportunity for UW Tacoma alumni, friends and fans to enjoy a night of baseball and help raise money for scholarships.

The Rainiers will take on the Reno Aces. Gates open at 6 p.m., and first pitch is at 7 p.m.

All Rainiers players, coaches and mascot Rhubarb will wear one-of-a-kind purple jerseys bearing both the Rainiers and UW Tacoma logos. The game-worn, autographed jerseys will be auctioned off silently during the game, with proceeds benefitting UW Tacoma scholarships. A portion of ticket proceeds will also be donated to scholarships. Those fans with the highest offer will be able to pick up their jersey immediately following the game outside the Customer Service Booth.

"Money raised through people attending Paint the Park Purple will go directly into the hands of some of the brightest and most dedicated students in the South Sound," said Joshua Knudson, UW Tacoma's vice chancellor for Advancement. "What better than to spend a summer evening watching your local baseball team while supporting UW Tacoma student scholarships."

Two ticket options are available for fans. For $35, enjoy admission to the game and an all-you-can-eat buffet and drinks on the Rainiers' party deck. All proceeds from these tickets will be donated to scholarships. Reserved tickets are $15, with $5 from each ticket going to scholarships.

"Paint the Park Purple will be a great way for fans to enjoy an affordable family evening at the ballpark while also raising money for education," said Tacoma Rainiers President Aaron Artman. "We couldn't be more excited about partnering up with UW Tacoma for this event."
