Campus Scene: UW Tacoma events: October 15 and beyond

Events are held on the UW Tacoma campus unless otherwise noted.

Campus Open House

Oct. 15 – 3:30-6 p.m.
William Philip Hall

Representatives from undergraduate and graduate programs will be available to meet with prospective students. It's a great time to take a campus tour and stroll Tacoma's free downtown ArtWalk the same day. More information.

Environmental Film Festival

Oct. 16 – 12-8 p.m.
Carwein Auditorium

The American Society for Environmental History will present four films, free and open to the public. Earth Days begins at noon, with introduction by ASEH Director Lisa Mighetto. Everything's Cool will show at 2 p.m.; Arid Lands at 3 p.m.; and Saving Luna at 5 p.m. More information.

Mayoral Forum

Oct. 16 – 5-6:30 p.m.
Philip Hall

Tacoma's mayoral candidates, Marilyn Strickland and Jim Merritt, will speak on important issues facing the city of Tacoma in an open forum organized by the student-run organization Civitas. Students and community members are invited to question the candidates on timely topics such as land use, education, transportation and other issues of concern. Free and open to the public.

Environmental Science Seminar

Oct. 19 – 12:30-1:20 p.m.

Jill Brandenberger, M.S., a research scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratories, will present a lecture, "Relationship Between Pacific Decadal Oscillation and Paleo-Tracers of Hypoxia in Sediment Cores from Puget Sound, Washington." This is one of six fall lectures in the year-long series. Refreshments provided, free and open to the public. Wolfgang Opitz on Navigating Public Policy

Oct. 20 – 6-8 p.m.

Assistant State Treasurer Wolfgang Opitz will give a lecture, "The state budget: how it is done and why we should care." Opitz is one of many key politicians who will present as part of the Navigating Public Policy program offered by the University of Tacoma KeyBank Professional Development Center. MBA Information Reception

Husky Day

For prospective freshmen, an introduction to UW Tacoma's academic programs, the financial aid process and student life. Campus tours will be available, as well as tours of our on-campus housing options at Court 17. More information.

Husky Huddle

Longshoremen's Hall

Immediately following Husky Days, make your way up the hill to Longshoremen's Hall for a few refreshments and a lot of team spirit. Join students in front of the big screen to cheer on the Huskies as they face the UCLA Bruins. More information.
