Peter Callaghan, political columnist for The News Tribune, will give a lecture, "The Role of Newspapers in Public Policy Making." Callaghan is one of many key speakers who will present as part of the Navigating Public Policy program offered by the University of Washington Tacoma KeyBank Professional Development Center.

John Stark, professor and director of Washington State University Puyallup Research and Extension Center, will present a lecture, "Pesticide mixtures: Do they have a negative effect on salmon and other aquatic organisms?" A panel of Washington state legislators will speak about the importance of higher education to economic development in the state and abroad. Open to the public and free of charge.

Pierce County Councilmember Dick Muri and performance audit coordinator for Pierce County Council Matt Temmel will give a presentation titled "Performance audits and their role in public policy making: What's all the noise about?" Muri and Temmel are two of several key political speakers who will present as part of the Navigating Public Policy program offered by the University of Washington Tacoma KeyBank Professional Development Center. The public is invited to attend, free of charge.

For prospective freshmen, an introduction to UW Tacoma's academic programs, the financial aid process and student life. Campus tours will be available, as well as tours of our on-campus housing options at Court 17.

Immediately following Husky Days, make your way up the hill to Longshoremen's Hall for a few refreshments and a lot of team spirit. Join students in front of the big screen to cheer on the Huskies as they face the UCLA Bruins.

Retired CIA analyst Ray McGovern will present a lecture, "Does torture work? Let's have both sides of the story." McGovern, a frequently featured guest of radio and TV political coverage, is a co-founder of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, an organization formed to contest U.S. government claims about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. Free event, open to the public.
Nov. 18 – 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Talk with representatives from graduate and professional schools throughout the state about their study programs and admissions process. This free event is open to the general public.
