One
of the many testaments to the fabulousness of UW Tacoma
is the fact that many members of our staff earned a
degree right here and chose to stay and pass on their
wisdom. For instance, you can enjoy MBA Adviser Caroline
Calvillo's 2004 thesis, Rural Women, Modernity,
Consumerism, Advertising: 1920s Convergent Themes in
Callie's Scrapbook, and then drop by her office
in the Milgard School of Business to chat about it.
Here's a sampling of other topics UW Tacoma students
have explored:
- The
Kennewick Man Controversy: Co-evolution of Cultural
Identity Using Cultural Resources by Sarah Hawes
Kimsey, 2004
- Revealing
a Chromatic Discourse Within Magazine Advertising:
A Semiotic Analysis of the Relationship Among Color,
Social Values, and Ideology by Edward W. Sponholz,
2003
- Environmental
Injustice: An Evaluation of Tacoma, Washington
by Amy Bates, 2005
- Drama
of 'the American Way of Life': What is Hidden Behind
the Curtain by Alevtina V. Rea, 2004
- Good
Night, Sleep Tight: Lessons for Public Health Professionals
Around Infant Sleep Practices by Denise Gonzalez-Walker,
2006
- Land
of the Dragon: Contending for the National Consciousness
in Wales 1880-2000 by Theresa Clark, 2006
Tip
of the Month: If you like to explore the world
of theses beyond those produced at the UW, which are
searchable in the UW Libraries Catalog, you can search
Dissertation
Abstracts, which includes citations for
dissertations from 1861 to the present from authors
at more than 1,000 North American and European universities.
If you'd like to get some help searching this database,
drop by the reference desk or contact a librarian. See
you at the Library!
