First-year Student Admissions

As of press time, UWT has received 228 applications for admission from first-year students (freshmen), and more applications arrive daily. An admissions committee has already sent offers of admission to 91 students, and makes additional offers each week. Student Affairs expects UWT to receive a total of 400-500 applications by May 1. UWT's priority application date is March 1, and will represent another significant applications milestone.[Wanda Curtis, Dan Garcia]

Report on UW Campaign

As of press time, UWT had reached 95% of the campaign goal of raising $30 million by the end of the capital campaign, June 30, 2008. Two more years remain for the campaign. Money has been raised for scholarships, chairs and professorships, facilities and program support. [Carol Van Natta]

Freshman Preview Day February 25

 The University of Washington, Tacoma will host a "preview day" for prospective first-year students on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon. Students and parents will hear about admission requirements and the application process from advisors, learn about curriculum and courses from faculty members, discover services and opportunities afforded by student life at UWT, hear from current students about their experiences, and take a tour of campus. This activity precedes the priority application date of March 1 for first-year student applications. Second Annual Financial Reporting Conference

This May 5 th conference, jointly hosted by the UWT Milgard School of Business and the UWS Business School, brings together accounting standard setters, enforcement officials, corporate financial executives, and professional and academic accountants to discuss current issues in financial accounting and corporate reporting. The format allows for participant interaction with speakers and panelists. Last year, more than 300 people participated in this event. Institute of Technology students tour Google

On Jan 20, the Institute of Technology faculty member Marty Stepp accompanied eight students from UWT's Women In Computer Science (WICS) to Kirkland to visit Google's office there. The group met with several women employees and discussed the challenges they faced in getting to where they are today. They also attended a few talks and several Q&A sessions with the Googlers. Learning to build a computer

On Feb. 3, members of Women in Computer Science (WICS) participated in a How to Build a Computer workshop on campus. They had the pleasure of tearing apart an entire computer (the easy part) and putting it back together.   The best part?   When they put it back together, the computer still worked and booted up! 2006 Business Leadership Awards

The nomination process for the UW Tacoma Milgard School of Business, Business Leadership Awards is now complete, and the difficult task of judging is in process. Please join us for the awards dinner on Wednesday, April 5, at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center Ballroom as we honor the best of South Puget Sound's business community.
