Strategic planning

The Strategic Planning Steering Committee has tentatively adopted a draft Values Statement for the campus. We are now asking for comments and feedback, via a survey, that can be evaluated for possible incorporation into a completed document which will be considered for adoption by the campus next fall. The Values Statement is available on the Strategic Planning Web site. Data from the survey forms will be analyzed by the steering committee, and the complete results will be shared with the campus community. The committee is planning three open meetings to discuss the results of the survey and the draft Values Statement after April 16. [Jim Coolsen]

UW Tacoma Library staff changes

The UW Tacoma library has made a number of changes in staff positions and in its reporting structure. New staff titles at the Library are:

  • Suzanne Klinger, head of reference services
  • Charles Lord, director of the UW Tacoma Library and Learning Resources.
  • Anna Salyer, head of community outreach
  • Jennifer Sundheim, head of library collections
  • Carole Svensson, assistant director
  • Justin Wadland, head of media and visual resources

The new position title for the director reflects a new reporting line for the Teaching and Learning Center from the director of Information Technology to the director of the Library and Learning Resources. This change establishes a dual reporting line from the director of Library and Learning Resources to the dean of University Libraries and to the UW Tacoma vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. Facilities request forms

UW Tacoma has implemented a new Web-based room request procedure. Instead of sending an e-mail to request a room for a special event, UW Tacoma students, staff and faculty can now make requests online. The new process includes a number of questions to help identify the best room possible. A UW Net ID is required for this process, and a paper version of the UUF form must be submitted three weeks prior to the start of the event. A totally paperless online UUF form is in development. Professional development funding for staff

Funding is still available for UW Tacoma staff members who wish to pursue professional development opportunities. Staff may apply for the funds to attend conferences, take UW-sponsored or external courses or seminars or complete training required for certification or licensure. All regular, full-time and part-time monthly paid staff members are eligible. Four staff members have already been awarded funds, leaving a pool of $18,000 to be awarded in the 2006-2007 fiscal year.
