Graduate Record Exam (GRE) Test Preparation (8 hours)

Introduction to the structure, content, and logic of the Graduate Record Exam: Computer Adaptive Test for graduate school applicants preparing to take the GRE. Knowledge, skills and anxieties will be shared. Primary objectives of test- and testing-process analysis, content review, study guidelines, practice questions, and anxiety reduction will be addressed. Secondary objective is to facilitate the graduate school applicant's creation of a study plan to enable the student to perform competitively on the GRE.

Required textbook: Cracking the GRE 2008, with DVD, published by The Princeton Review (Cost approx. $33.95).

About the Instructors

Sheri Gietzen, M.A., Interdiscipliary Studies, B.A., Humanities (minor in Environmental Studies), University of Washington Tacoma, AAS, Tacoma Community College

Gietzen was a writing consultant for upper division and Masters students at the University of Washington Tacoma, for five years and currently teaches English classes at Tacoma Community College. She taught in Alaska before moving to Washington in 1989. Gietzen is a founding board member and Vice President of the Board for the non-profit organization Solutions for Humanity, Community, and the Environment, an organization dedicated empowering individuals and groups within the Puget Sound bioregion through intellectual exchange, research, networking, and publication.  She was received the Outstanding English Student of the Year award while at Tacoma Community College.

Richard Nathanael Olszewski, B.S., University of Washington, Statistics

Olszewski was the Information Services Manager for 32 years for Peninsula Light Company (retired); throughout this same time, he has been a math tutor for students from middle school through college. He has served on the Vocational Advisory Committee for the Peninsula School District. Olszewski is a retired Commander in the Naval Reserve. He was president of the Gig Harbor Lions Club and currently serves on the Board of Directors.
