Teacher Education Clock Hours

The University of Washington Tacoma, through the KeyBank Professional Development Center and the UW Tacoma Education Program, has received Clock Hour Provider Status from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) for K-12 educators. Clock Hour Provider status allows UW Tacoma to document clock hours for K-12 educators who take UW Tacoma educational activities designed exclusively for teachers. The UW Tacoma KeyBank Professional Development Center works with the UW Tacoma Education Program and community resources to provide clock hour certification for high-quality teacher education opportunities offered in a variety of venues, including museums and school districts.

Some features of the Clock Hour program include:

  • Programs designed exclusively for teacher education (K-12) are eligible for consideration for clock hours.
  • The clock hours option must be approved by the Center and UW Tacoma's Education program prior to the activity.
  • The clock hours received in approved activities cannot be used to satisfy degree requirements.
  • The clock hours received will not appear on UW Tacoma transcripts.
  • Clock hours will be documented through a ‘non-credit transcript' provided through the Center.
  • Enrollment in a clock hour option course does not constitute admission to the UW Tacoma.
  • Participants pay $30 for each 10 hours (10 clock hours) for approved courses.

If you know of an educational activity designed exclusively for teachers in the K-12 environment that you feel may be appropriate for clock hours, please contact Alice Dionne, Director for the Center, at (253) 692-4672 or adionne@u.washington.edu .
