BASW: How to Apply

Applying for admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare program is a two-part process requiring an application to the University and an application to the BASW program.

Plan Ahead:

The BASW program admits new students for autumn quarter only. The priority application date is April 1. Applicants should have all required forms and transcripts submitted on or before April 1 to be considered "on-time". Applications received after the priority application date will be reviewed on a space-available basis and may be placed on a wait list. Admission is competitive.

BASW Application Kit

Print a copy of the BASW Application Kit . The kit includes the application, instructions for applying, and guidelines for the admissions essay and resume.

Depending on your status, the application form and process may vary:

Current UW Tacoma Students

Current students must complete a Declare/Change Major form and submit all required BASW application materials to the program for consideration.

• Review the list of requirements for Declaring a Major in Social Welfare.
• Complete the Social Welfare Application.

Transfer Students

Applying to the BASW program is a two-part process requiring application to the University and submission of required BASW application materials.

• Complete the Application for Transfer Admission
• Complete the Social Welfare Application

Returning UW Tacoma Students

If you were previously enrolled at UW Tacoma, submit a Returning Student Application in lieu of the Application for Transfer Admission. Get the form using one of these methods:

• Complete the Returning Former Student Application form ( 113 KB PDF)
• Note: Returning students may also need to submit supplemental material to the Social Welfare program. Check with the Program adviser for details

International Students

• Complete the Application for Transfer Admission form. You must also comply with the International Student Undergraduate Admissions requirements.
• Complete the Social Welfare Application
