If you have encountered a case of misconduct, please review these pages first. Contact Student Affairs if you have questions or need further assistance. |
If you discover that one of your students has violated the University of Washington Student Conduct
Code
, it may be very disappointing and upsetting. It is important, however, that you consider
this a learning opportunity for your student.
- Talk with your student; tell him/her what you have discovered. We encourage this first step because the student is most likely to learn a lesson from a faculty member he/she has had all quarter than from an informal hearing process where they will be faced with a panel of strangers. Also, you may discover something that leads you to refer the student to the Student Counseling Center or another resource.
- You may assign a zero grade for the assignment, and that grade will be factored into the entire course grade as normal, but you may not give a zero grade for the entire course.
- Complete the Student Conduct Incident Report
and attach the student's assignment, any supporting documents (such as your syllabus or e-mail communication), and evidence (materials from a plagiarized website, for instance). - Submit your materials to the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (Box 358403), Attention: Julie Draper.
Remember that the informal hearing process may take a while. There are sevral sanctions that we may implement. Warning and probation may be implemented immediately while we may recommend suspension and dismissal be implemented by UW Seattle.
