Assessments

The Career Development Center offers several assessments and resources to assist students in discovering their passions, values, skills, and characteristics and how those qualities can relate to their education and career paths.

Discover - the required access code can be obtained in our office or requested by e-mailing tcareer@u.washington.edu, first time users do not need a password.
Based on your interests, skills, strengths, and needs, Discover will generate a list of specific educational programs and possible career options. The program will build a personalized profile that will guide you through the decision making process of choosing a program of study and/or career.

Washington Occupational Information Services(WOIS)
WOIS contains assessments that pertain to your skills, values, and interests and it also offers educational and occupational information specific to Washington State. WOIS assessment results will provide you with an occupational outlook to gain an understanding of the world of work and what academic path is required for each career option. WOIS can be accessed from the Career Development Center, any campus computer, or off campus with a log-in and password. Please call the Career Development Center to receive the log-in information.
Dependable Strengths
Each person has a unique combination of core skills, abilities, qualities and traits that he or she enjoys using and can use easily. Identifying Dependable Strengths can lead to an education and career pathway that people will enjoy and do well. The six-step process includes:
  1. Identifying many past good experiences
  2. Selecting the top four good experiences
  3. Completing the Strengths Chart
  4. Identifying the Top Strengths
  5. Determining a Career Pathway using the Top Strengths
  6. Selecting occupations from the Career Pathway
The Internet version of Dependable Strengths is engaging and easy to use, and storage of data allows users to return to their work for further exploration or to make changes. This is one more tool to help students and clients assess their skills and abilities as they relate to their career choices and options.

What's Next?

Upon completing any of the assessments, reviewing suggested occupations is strongly recommended. Even though they may not seem like a good match you will discover the personal characteristics, skills, knowledge, aptitudes, and temperaments required. Knowing these skills and attributes can be beneficial to you in planning a career.

You are strongly encouraged to make an appointment with the Career Counselor to discuss the results of your assessments and further assist with your career planning.

These assessments are available to non-UWT students for a small fee.
