User Policy For Employers
The Career Development Center of the University of Washington, Tacoma makes facilities and services available to all bona fide employing organizations for campus interviewing, employment listings, career fairs and information group meetings. Our services for employers are designed to assist employers in their efforts to hire qualified personnel and afford students and alumni at the University opportunities to examine career options without unduly disrupting their academic pursuits. The following guidelines govern the manner in which employers may use the Career Development Center to access candidates.
Guidelines
- It is expected that employers using campus facilities under this policy will interact with students, alumni, and Center staff in a professional and ethical manner, including providing complete information concerning conditions of employment within their organization. In addition to disclosing the name to its organization, employers must meet the requirements set forth below to be eligible to use the Center facilities and/or services:
- Employers must affirm that they are equal opportunity employers, offering employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, marital status, national origin, age, disability, or status as a veteran, in accordance with applicable State and Federal laws. For participation in the campus recruitment program, accessing resume books, attending career fairs, or posting employment listings, employers must affirm compliance with this policy by completing and signing specific participant forms, when requested.
- Employers must recruit for positions within their own or legally affiliated organizations. However, positions which require students and alumni to purchase a franchise will not be allowed access to services. If a Third Party Employment Agency is being used or if the employer is serving in the capacity of a "Third Party Employment Agency, then the Center’s "Third Party Employment Services User Policy" must be followed.
- Those companies requiring candidates to invest, purchase supplies, or pay a fee as a condition of employment, must clearly state the cost and provide a written explanation of the cost on any materials describing the company’s employment opportunities and/or job descriptions which are posted in the Career Development Center or on campus. This information must be clearly disclosed when speaking with candidates. If the company does not follow the stated policy, privileges to utilize the Career Development Center will be jeopardized.
- It is expected that employers using the Center’s services will offer regular salaries for positions. However, employers offering commission-based positions may use the Center if they (1) are recruiting for positions which are full-time career jobs, and (2) inform the Center and interviewees of the specific manner in which remuneration is to be determined.
- Certain employers will not be allowed to recruit through the Career Development Center:
- Employers who fail to meet the conditions of our User Policy for Employers.
- Employers who are involved in strikes and are hiring for positions which are included in the affected bargaining units.
- Employers who have been judged by a court of law in the United States to be engaged in illegal activities.
Any reported breach of any part of this policy will result in the termination of all future opportunities to recruit UWT students and alumni through the Center. See also our Third-Party Employment Services User Policy.
