Husky Job Club Mission Statement

To serve as a stepping-stone in empowering students to discover career opportunities while building a support network.

The Husky Job Club Can Help You on Your Path to Career Success

You've probably heard time and time again that the resume is the most important marketing piece when it comes to selling yourself during your job search process. A polished and dynamic resume will highlight your skills and qualifications and get you that interview which will hopefully land you the job of your dreams.

But did you know that 60-85% of all jobs are found through networking?

One-on-one contact with the employers is what will help potential employers remember you. The most effective form of contact with a targeted employer is through personal interaction and informational interviews.

The main goal of the Husky Job Club will be networking and making career contacts by speaking with employers during on-campus events and at organized visits to local companies. We will also incorporate various other job search components such as:

  • Support each other in discovering job opportunities
    • Brainstorm ideas, successful and unsuccessful job-search strategies, companies that we would like to research, etc.
    • Discuss progress, stumbling blocks and areas to be improved upon
  • Develop an effective resume and cover letter
    • Create a resume highlights your skills, experience and qualifications in a way that will best sell you
    • Tailor your resume and cover letter to the exact industry and position that you are applying for based off of the job description
  • Practice interviewing skills
    • Learn different strategies to make your interview more successful such as learning the interview process, preparation and company research
    • Become familiar with questions that the interviewer may ask during the interview and formulate a list of questions that you will ask the employer
  • Speak one on one with employers during on-campus events and visits to their companies
    • Meet employers during Career Discovery Week and Career Fair
    • Conduct informational interviews with local companies
  • Learn career tips from Husky Career Network (UWT Alumni)
    • The Husky Career Network contacts are a worldwide network of more that 4,500 UW alumni and friends of the University
    • We will attend presentations by Husky Career Network Contacts on interviewing, company culture and how to survive the first year of work
  • Prepare your 30-second bio
    • A 30-second bio is the spoken version of your resume and it is much like a brief "commercial" that allows you to sell yourself. Even though no one yells "lights, camera, action!" this may be as close to an audition as you will ever come. What you say during the next 30 seconds may make this recruiter want to explore the possibility of hiring you!
    • Husky Job Club Members will perfect their 30-second bios through practicing during each meeting.

Come by the Career Development Center and learn more about this exciting opportunity!
