The University of Washington Tacoma is proud to offer a Childcare Assistance Program. Many UWT students may be eligible for this program and we encourage you to apply if you meet the criteria below.
For more information regarding the Childcare Assistance Program, application process, or the program's waiting list please contact the Student Life Assistant Manager.
Eligibility Requirements
- Students must be UW Tacoma matriculated students from any undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate program.
- Students must maintain part-time or full-time student status. Any changes may affect assistance.
- Tuition exempt students are not eligible.
- Childcare assistance is limited to low-income students. Families must fall within prescribed income and resource limits.
- Students must be the legal and physical custodial parent.
- Child must be in the care of a state licensed child care provider (i.e. home, center, or after school program). Private school tuition, meals, registration fees, or other special fees are not covered.
- Childcare expenses must meet or exceed the amount of the allocated stipend, typically $220 for part-time status and $400 for full-time.
How to apply
- Choose your state licensed childcare facility (see table on the right for referral information).
- If you are not already on file submit the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA
) for the up coming academic year (see table to the right). - Drop by The Office of Student Life (MAT108), fill out a Childcare Request Application packet and submit a copy of your childcare provider's state license. You may also request that packet be mailed to you.
Once approved, assistance is available for 3 quarters (excluding Summer quarter) within one academic year. Further details are available in the Office of Student Life (MAT 108).
Check Distribution
Checks, made payable to the provider, may be picked up at the UW Tacoma cashiers office (MAT 354N) on or after the tenth day of the quarter once notified by Student Life.
