Childcare Assistance Program

The UW Tacoma Childcare Assistance Program (CAP) is a funding resource to assist student parents in paying for childcare costs (ages: birth - 12 years and 11 months) throughout the academic year. Funding is available for student parents who have unmet financial need even after the maximum amount of financial aid has been awarded. Financial need is determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Generally, if the student qualifies for Financial Aid, the student would be considered to have financial need.

Funding for the CAP is available for Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters. We do not have funding available for Summer Quarter at this time. Current CAP awards are $600 per quarter for full-time enrollment and $400 for part-time enrollment. Enrollment is verified on the 10th day after the quarter begins and funds are disbursed within 7 business days after. Disbursement is made directly to the UW student account via direct deposit. If the student does not have direct deposit, a check will be mailed to the current address (please be sure your address is correct in MyUW).

Please Note: Money received through the Childcare Assistance Program may be considered taxable income and will be listed on your 1098T form. We are not trained to advise on tax laws. Please contact a tax advisor for their instructions in utilizing information on the 1098T when filling out your taxes.

The CAP funding is intended for the 1st day of the quarter through the last day of the quarter. CAP funding does not cover childcare costs during breaks. All monies distributed from the CAP are to be paid directly to the licensed childcare provider indicated on the Childcare Assistance Program Application. It is the student's responsibility to ensure payments are made to the childcare provider and to provide adequate documentation of proof of payment by the deadline listed.

Due to limited funding, the CAP is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Should funding no longer be available, the student will be placed on the waitlist and contacted if funding becomes available. The CAP application is valid for the entire academic year (Fall - Spring Quarter) - students do not need to re-apply each quarter.
