About Volunteer Services

Volunteer Services provides students with opportunities to get involved in the community. Through volunteering, students will be able to build relationships with members of the community and strengthen their commitment to community engagement. Volunteer Services provides a variety of opportunities for students seeking to increase their community involvement.

Volunteer Services Programs

Below is a brief description of the programs offered by Volunteer Services. For updates and information, please email vsuwt@uw.edu e-mail link to be added to our listserv, or "like" our Facebook page.

  • One Time Events:
  • Volunteer Services partners with community organizations to provide six service events per quarter. These events may be held on or off campus and are designed to be accessible for students with a busy schedule! Each event is coordinated by the Volunteer Services Coordinator.
  • Alternative Spring Breakaway Trip:
  • Want to try something a little different? Forego your ordinary plans to vacation and join us for a trip that focuses on volunteering and giving back to the community. Two breakaway trips are offered through UW Tacoma. These programs are created by two student Spring Breakaway Coordinators.
  • Community Engagement Leadership (CEL) Program:
  • Take your engagement to the next level by applying for the CEL Program. Through this program, students will develop analytical, interpersonal, and leadership skills, which are highly desired by employers. Students will also develop relationships at UW Tacoma and within the community that will support them through the program and foster their growth. Program acceptance is competitive and may be completed in either one or two years.
  • Individual Volunteer Resources:
  • Are you interested in volunteering, but are not sure what opportunities are available? Student Involvement keeps a listing of service opportunities on our Volunteer Now webpage and at the front desk of MAT 103. Individual questions or consultations should be referred to Michelle Harper Kowalczyk, mnharper@uw.edu e-mail link
  • Advertise Local Service Opportunities:
  • Organizations are encouraged to refer to our Volunteer Now page advertising guidelines and requirements.
