Community Engaged Leadership (CEL) Program

The Community Engaged Leadership Program is an opportunity for students to gain real-world experience working within the community to address needs and issues. Through this program, students will develop analytical, interpersonal, and leadership skills, which are highly desired by employers. Students will also develop relationships at UW Tacoma and within the community that will support them through the program and foster their growth. Program acceptance is competitive and may be completed in either one or two years.

Two Tracks to Meet Your Needs

The program consists of two tracks: Emerging Leader Certification and Engaged Leader Certification.

The Emerging Leader Certification is designed to recognize students who are beginning to explore their passion for service. Although students are encouraged to complete the majority of their hours with one organization, it is not a requirement.

The Engaged Leader Certification is designed to recognize students who are deeply committed to service in their daily lives. Students in this program are expected to complete most of their hours with one organization in the community. They will demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the organization and build a reciprocal partnership throughout their term of service.
