Parent and Family Affairs
Our Mission
The Office of Parent and Family Affairs (OFPA) at UW Tacoma is committed to providing support and resources to the parents, guardians, significant-others and support-persons of our students, through consistent communication, effective and relevant workshops, and on-campus events. OFPA understands and respects the significant role parents and families play in the success of UW Tacoma students. As an institution we are committed to student success; therefore, a strong partnership between UW Tacoma and parents and families is paramount.
Defining "Parents and Families"
OFPA understands that students may have multiple support persons/systems which assist them during their collegiate career. Parents and Families are defined as anyone who directly supports a UW Tacoma student financially, emotionally or otherwise. This person may be a parent or guardian, a grandparent, a spouse, a partner or significant other. Regardless of their "title," OFPA will offer opportunities and resources that are specific to these individuals.
UW Tacoma Parent and Family Association (UWTPFA):
The purpose of the newly developed University of Washington Tacoma Parent and Family Association (UWTPFA) is to create a partnership between the university and the parents and families of UW Tacoma students. This is an opportunity to become engaged in the UW Tacoma community and stay involved and informed.
Why Join the UWTPFA?
- Enhanced Communication: interact with students, staff, and faculty to stay up to date on what's happening at UW Tacoma
- Parent's Weekends: participate in the annual Parents and Families Weekend
- Volunteer Opportunities: serve on panels during New Student Orientation and campus workshops
- Parent and Family Networking: connect with other UW Tacoma parents and family members who are committed to being involved in their student's education
